Description

Dulce de leche delight brings Argentine sweetness to your dessert table with creamy caramel magic. Rich layers of condensed milk perfection blend seamlessly, promising an indulgent experience you’ll savor with pure pleasure.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 3 cans sweetened condensed milk (397 grams / 14 ounces per can)

Liquid:

  • Water (enough to cover cans)

Instructions

  1. Carefully peel off the exterior label from condensed milk cans, meticulously removing any lingering adhesive residue to ensure a clean surface.
  2. Select a spacious, deep pot that can accommodate the cans comfortably and provide ample water coverage.
  3. Gently place unopened cans into the pot, then pour cool water until the cans are completely submerged with approximately two inches of water above them.
  4. Position the pot on the stovetop and gradually increase heat to medium-high, allowing water to reach a gentle, rolling boil.
  5. Reduce heat to the lowest possible setting, creating a soft, consistent simmer that will transform the condensed milk into rich caramel.
  6. Cover the pot with a lid to minimize water evaporation and maintain consistent water levels throughout the cooking process.
  7. Allow the cans to simmer undisturbed for three and a half hours, periodically checking water levels and replenishing with additional hot water if necessary to keep cans fully submerged.
  8. After cooking duration has elapsed, carefully remove the pot from heat source without disturbing the cans.
  9. Let the pot and cans rest together, allowing them to cool naturally to room temperature over several hours.
  10. Exercise extreme caution when handling the cans, as opening them while hot can cause dangerous sputtering and potential burns.
  11. Once completely cooled, transfer the cans to the refrigerator for safe storage.
  12. Unopened cans can be preserved for up to three months, while opened dulce de leche will maintain quality for approximately one week when refrigerated.

Notes

  • Always monitor water levels during cooking to prevent can exposure and potential explosion.
  • Check sealed cans for dents or damage before starting the caramelization process.
  • Carefully transfer hot cans using tongs and protective kitchen mitts to avoid potential burns.
